2010 APACRS-AUSCRS Combined Annual Meeting E-Newsletter #1

18 August 2009

Dear Friends and Colleagues

The Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (APACRS) holds its annual meeting in different countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Next year, we will be holding a unique combined meeting with the Australasian Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (AUSCRS) in Cairns, Australia from 1st to 4th July 2010.

The theme of the meeting is “FUSION” representing how the talents and strengths of both societies will be blended into one of the most informative and exciting educational events in cataract & refractive surgery.

The meeting will be held in the tropical centre of Cairns, which is ideally suited to those wanting to experience the natural treasures of the Barrier Reef and rain forests of tropical Australia. It will retain the relaxed and entertaining format for which the AUSCRS meetings are renowned with the additional energy and dynamism of speakers and attendees from the Asia-Pacific region.

The APACRS meeting is increasingly recognized as the major regional event in Cataract & Refractive Surgery and acts as a counterpart to ASCRS in North America and ESCRS in Europe. There is always active participation from ASCRS and ESCRS at our regional meeting and once again this will be a highlight of the “FUSION” meeting in Cairns.

The meeting has already attracted widespread interest around the region and the website www.fusion2010.org.au is now open for registration and abstract submissions.

On behalf of the both APACRS & AUSCRS I would like to invite all who have an interest in Cataract & Refractive surgery to join us for a unique, interactive and educational event – “FUSION” in Cairns 2010.

Warmest regards

Associate Professor Graham Barrett, MD
President, APACRS & AUSCRS

The Wet Tropics Rainforest which surrounds Cairns is one of the most diverse and beautiful examples of Mother Nature. It is home to the largest range of plants and animals and is the oldest rainforest on earth.

Enjoy Australia’s best aboriginal cultural experiences in Cairns. The Australian aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders have been living in harmony with nature for 40,000 years.

The tropics have uniform temperatures throughout the year. Typical daytime min/max temperature ranges in Cairns are 23C/31C in mid-Summer and 18C/26C in mid-Winter.
